Table ordering for pubs in Sri Lanka

The next round, without waiting for a waiter.

Guests scan the QR code on their table, tap Same again, and the order lands at your bar. There is no app to download. They pay as they go, run a tab or pay cash, and your staff still bring every drink.

  • No app to install
  • Works beside your till
  • No commission on your sales

How it works

Scan, order, serve.

  1. 1

    Scan

Every table has its own QR code. The phone's camera opens your drinks list in the browser, so there is nothing to install.

  2. 2

    Order

Same again repeats the last round in two taps. The bill builds as they go, with service charge and VAT shown from the first drink.

  3. 3

    Serve

The order appears on the bar screen the moment it is sent, under its table number, with a chime and a printed docket if you want one.

Why pubs

Made for the next round, not the whole menu.

A pub order is mostly the same drinks again, from a short list people already know. So TapTab keeps it small: drinks and bar snacks, big buttons, nothing to scroll through. Food stays on your printed menu and with your waiter.

Ways to pay

Three ways to pay. The guest chooses.

Nobody has to sign up to order. Guests who want a tab or want to pay cash verify once, and the venue is covered every time.

Pay as you go

For walk-ins, tourists and anyone in for a round or two. No account needed.

  1. Pick the round
  2. Pay by card or bank app on the secure payment page
  3. The order goes to the bar as soon as it is paid

For the venue

Every round is paid for before it is poured.

Run a tab

For regulars, groups and long nights. A verified account, set up once.

  1. Verify a mobile number with a one-time code
  2. Save a card with the payment provider
  3. Order all night, then close the tab from the phone

For the venue

A card is on file before the first drink. If a guest leaves without closing, the bar closes the tab, the card is charged and the receipt goes to the guest.

Pay cash

For verified guests who prefer to pay in cash.

  1. Choose cash when ordering
  2. The order reaches the bar marked CASH, with the amount
  3. The waiter collects it with the drinks and marks it received

For the venue

Only verified guests can choose cash, and their saved card stands behind any cash that goes unpaid.

Where the money goes

  • Card and bank-app payments run through payments.lk, a Sri Lankan payment gateway, straight into your own merchant account. They settle the next working day.
  • Card numbers stay with the payment provider. TapTab and your staff never see them.
  • TapTab takes no cut. Card fees go to the provider at its published rates: 2.29–2.49% on Sri Lankan cards, more on foreign ones, and 0.99% by bank app.

Cash without the risk

  • Cash is for verified guests only: a checked mobile number and a saved card.
  • Every cash order is recorded when the waiter marks it received, with the time and the amount.
  • At close, the dashboard shows the cash the till should hold, so anything missing stands out.
  • You can set a limit on how much a guest can run up in cash.

Payments switch on once your venue is set up with payments.lk. Until then, TapTab takes the order and guests pay your waiter the usual way.

Three screens

Guests, bar and manager.

For your guests

Their own phone, no sign-up. Same again at the top, quick picks, the running bill, and buttons to ask for the bill or call a waiter.

For the bar and till

Orders arrive by table, oldest first, with a chime. One tap marks a round as being made, another as served. Open tables, their bills and any calls sit alongside.

For the manager

Tonight's orders, average time to serve, sales by hour and the best sellers, live. Change a price or mark something sold out and every table sees it at once.

The manager's dashboard with orders tonight, time to serve, sales and a chart of orders by hour.

Why TapTab

Faster than the waiter. Built for pubs, unlike the rest.

Why QR ordering hasn't stuck in pubs

QR ordering is already sold in Sri Lanka, yet you rarely see it used in a pub. The reasons are simple, and TapTab is designed around each one.

  1. Scrolling a full menu on a phone is slower than catching the waiter, so guests give up.

Same again puts the last round one tap from the bar.

  2. Anything that needs an app or a sign-up loses the table before the first order.

A web page from the QR code. No app, and no account unless they want a tab.

  3. Staff feel cut out and steer guests back to ordering through them.

Staff still deliver every round, and tips left on tabs go to them.

  4. Venues still carry the risk of walkouts and missing cash.

Verified tabs with a card on file, and cash recorded against the till.

Common questions

Before you book a demo.

Do guests need to download an app?

No. The QR code opens a web page in the phone's browser. The whole page is under 50 KB, so it opens quickly on pub Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Do guests have to create an account?

Only to run a tab or pay cash. Paying as you go needs no account at all.

What stops someone walking out on a tab?

A tab only opens once the guest has verified a mobile number and saved a card. If they leave without closing it, the bar closes it and the saved card is charged.

Who sees card details?

Only the payment provider. Card numbers are entered on its secure page and stored by it. TapTab, your staff and your systems never see them.

Does it replace our POS?

No. TapTab takes the order and sends it to your bar. Your till stays as it is, and staff key TapTab orders the same way they key a waiter's.

What about food?

TapTab is for drinks and bar snacks, the things people order again and again. Meals stay on your printed menu and with your waiter.

What happens to service charge and tips?

Nothing changes. Your service charge shows on the bill as it does today, and your staff still deliver every round.

How long does setup take?

We need your current drinks list and a table plan. We build the menu and print the cards before your first night, then set up the bar screen and train the team on the night.
